Ingredients:

  • ½ tablespoon sabja seeds (sweet basil seeds or falooda seeds or tukmaria)
  • ¾ to 1 cup water (for soaking)

Instructions:

  • Take the sweet basil seeds in a bowl, and carefully remove any chaff, husks, or stones present among them.
  • Optionally, rinse the seeds in a small fine strainer if desired.
  • Pour water over the seeds, ensuring to add enough water to prevent the soaked seeds from becoming lumpy as they swell.
  • Basil seeds absorb water only as much as needed, so you can add extra water to prevent the formation of lumps.
  • The basil seeds will gradually begin absorbing water upon soaking.
  • Allow them to soak for 20 to 30 minutes. Once they have absorbed water, a translucent gelatin-like coating will form around them.
  • Strain the soaked seeds and use them in various beverages, coolers, sherbets, ice creams, falooda, or kulfi.
  • Any leftover soaked sabja seeds can be refrigerated for 1 to 2 days for future use.
